Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I know if I or my child needs braces?

Common signs include crowded teeth, gaps, difficulty biting or chewing, overbite, underbite, crossbite, mouth breathing, or teeth that don’t line up properly. Even if teeth look “mostly straight,” bite issues and conditions only visible with X-rays can still be present. We recommend an orthodontic evaluation by age 7, but patients of all ages can benefit from treatment.

2. What is the best age to start orthodontic treatment?

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. Some patients benefit from early treatment, while others may not need braces until their teen years. Adults can also successfully straighten their teeth at any age.

3. Do you offer free consultations?

Yes! We offer complimentary orthodontic consultations so you can learn about your treatment options, estimated treatment time, and financial options before getting started.

4. What types of braces do you offer?

We offer a variety of treatment options including traditional metal braces, clear braces, and clear aligners. During your consultation, we’ll help determine which option is best for your smile, lifestyle, and goals.

5. How much do braces or Invisalign cost?

Treatment costs vary depending on the complexity of each case and the type of treatment selected. We strive to make orthodontic care affordable by offering flexible payment plans and working with many insurance providers.

6. Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! We offer flexible monthly payment options designed to fit different budgets. Our team will review all financial options with you and help create a plan that works comfortably for your family.

7. How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Treatment time varies from patient to patient, but most orthodontic treatments range from 12–24 months. Some minor cases may take less time, while more complex cases may require longer treatment.

8. Does getting braces or Invisalign hurt?

Patients may experience mild soreness or pressure for a few days after braces are bonded or adjusted or when switching to a new Invisalign aligner. This is temporary and usually manageable with soft foods and over-the-counter pain relief if needed.

9. Can adults get braces or Invisalign?

Absolutely! Orthodontic treatment is not just for kids and teens. Many adults choose braces or Invisalign to improve their smile, bite, and confidence. It’s never too late to invest in your smile.

10. What foods should I avoid with braces?

Patients with braces should avoid sticky, hard, or crunchy foods such as popcorn, ice, hard candy, gum, and chewy candies, as these can damage brackets and wires. We’ll provide a full list of foods to avoid and tips for caring for your braces.

11. What happens if a bracket breaks or a wire pokes me?

If you experience a broken bracket or poking wire, contact our office and we’ll guide you on the next steps. Many minor issues can be temporarily managed at home with orthodontic wax until you’re able to come in for an appointment.

12. How often will I need appointments?

Most orthodontic patients are seen every 4–8 weeks depending on the type of treatment and stage of progress. Our team works hard to keep appointments efficient and convenient for busy schedules.
